The 9th SIMM-posium was hosted by the Rhythmic Music Conservatory and its Copenhagen Centre for Research in Artistic Citizenship (CReArC), in a close collaboration with the international research platform SIMM (Social Impact of Music Making).

Building on the previous SIMM-posia in Ghent, London, Porto, Bogota, Brussels, Paris, London and Brisbane, the 2024 Copenhagen SIMM-posium featured presentations, thematic panels and keynotes, exploring the social impact of participatory music-making across a wide range of cultural contexts.

Up to 100 delegates joined in person in Copenhagen. Some online presentations were being accommodated, and the event was being livestreamed. Papers were being presented on research developed in and/or by researchers from Croatia, El Salvador, Colombia, Chili, Honduras, Kenya, USA, Sweden, Brazil, China, Denmark, Belgium, UK, Italy, Syria, Iceland, Canada, Austria, Germany, Greece, Ireland, France and Cyprus.

This year’s programme was welcoming 2 keynote speakers and up to 45 brief (10 minute) presentations of academic as well as artistic research, research-related work in progress or critical reflections on research, which were curated into thematic panels and followed by plenary discussions. Artistic and creative research methods were welcomed alongside presentations of community-centred empirical theoretical or methodological inquiry.
